Respect Old Age In Ministry – Bishop Irabor Wisdom
Respect for Old Age in Ministry: A Lesson from Bishop Irabor Wisdom
In today’s fast-paced world, it’s easy to focus only on results, achievements, and visible success. Yet, there is a deeper value that must never be overlooked — the blessing of old age. Bishop Irabor Wisdom, reflecting on a recent service where Pastor Enoch Adeboye prayed for Bishop David Oyedepo, emphasized why we must honor age alongside results.
According to Bishop Irabor, results cannot buy old age, long life, good health, or relevance. No matter how anointed or accomplished a minister may be, age is a gift only God can give. That’s why even highly respected pastors, such as Bishop Oyedepo, submit themselves to elders like Daddy G.O., who is three years older.
He reminded us that:
-
Every pastor should have elders who can lay hands on them, especially on significant days like birthdays.
-
Not every anointed minister lives to see old age, and that in itself is a privilege.
-
Respecting elders is not about results or hierarchy but about honoring God’s gift of long life.
Bishop Irabor further noted that on Bishop Oyedepo’s 70th birthday, three elders prayed for him: Pastor E.A. Adeboye (13 years older), Mama Idahosa (12 years older), and Bishop Mike Okonkwo (9 years older). This was not about results, but about recognizing the blessing of age and the grace of longevity.
His message is clear: beyond mentors and fathers in ministry, we all need elders. Respecting age is a pathway to longevity, prosperity, and good health.
“Not all anointed men are privileged to see old age. May God bless us with long life in prosperity and good health.” – Bishop Irabor Wisdom
